Ashwick Court was a project to update and bring functionality to a disjointed, tired yet beautiful Grade II period property set in a stunning Somerset Valley.

Working with the existing infrastructure where possible to keep costs at a manageable level the property was given a new lease of life whilst maintaining as many of the original features that still remained. Phase one involved internal alterations to the main house including re-configuring the second floor to give a stunning Master Bedroom with En-Suite and Dressing Room along with creating a study with adjoining WC on the first floor. When the architect was unable to carry on with the project the client asked if we would be happy to continue with the subsequent phases in an increased design and detailed capacity which we were more than happy to do.

Phase two was the conversion of the adjoining barn from offices to a large, multifunctional space. Stripping out the sub divided 1980s interior we carefully exposed the original ceilings and hay chutes and worked these into the overall aesthetic the client wanted to achieve. A reclaimed Gymnasium floor was sourced and installed alongside new bespoke oak French doors, also the original barn doors were discovered during the build and were restored and relocated to retain some of the buildings history. All of this was carried out in conjunction with ecologists as there were a colony of Bats present in the barn loft area. Along with the barn the large three bed annex cottage was altered and renovated to give a spacious open plan ground floor living area to maximise the potential of the floor plan.

Phase three included creating a home gym, rewiring of areas of the main house and upgrading aspects of the heating system to enable the large property to run more energy efficiently. Renovation of the main staircase and entrance hall along with breathing new life in to a tired and dated kitchen and decoration throughout the main house enabled the clients to put the property on the market and obtain a substantial return on their investment.
